from what we've seen of Jinjur's side of this... I don't think she got "Everything" she wanted
plus why do they keep assuming that they're using swords... I've seen nothing about the weapons being selected.
On a side note: What do guyena do career wise? Is it like an inverse of normal where they do mostly secretary work and go into teaching and the care jobs while females become Politicians, CEO, and Generals. Or do they all just join the military in the lower ranks?

I once worked up a whole list of jobs civilian hyenas do, like armourers, cooks, child care, health care, trashmen, and so forth. Dentists are always in high demand, and enjoy a high level of respect. The Crocutan society is heavily caste-conscious, so if you're born into a higher-ranking family, you're treated like aristocracy. Every hyena knows its place in the scheme of things, who it has to bow to, and who it can step on.
The only real path to upward mobility is through joining the Brigade. Kathy's grandmother Penthesilia was born into a low-caste family in Ngorongoro, joined the Rackenroon Hyena Brigade, and through her strength, size, and ambition, she rose to the rank of General, and is now the commanding officer of the American Legion in Hyenasport, outside New Yak City. She would be the sheyena directly below Songween's Generalissima--if Songween had one. So technically Penthesilia is Songween's Generalissima. Although, keeping Reggie out of trouble is a full-time occupation for her...
Only sheyenas can become officers. Fred's mother's money got him commissioned as a Lieutenant, and he is in a way an "honorary sheyena." He still has to prove himself worthy on a daily basis, despite being the highest-ranking male in the country, due to his position as Adjutant to the Duchess, and future Sire Consort to the next Duchess.
Guyenas populate the enlisted ranks, and work to become Master Sergeants and Sergeant-Majors. They can also marry up with higher-caste sheyenas, and often show off their physical prowess--as well as their obedience--in order to attract the attention of a mate.
Guyenas are not restricted to working for the Brigade, however. Some have gone to other countries and joined their militaries, rising quite high, quite fast, because of the training they receive from the Brigade. However, when one of these "outside" officers encounters a Brigade unit in combat, he is often targeted for assassination because the Brigadiers think of him as a traitor.
Any high-ranking sheyena with the means to do so can organize her own Brigade unit. She must pay a stipend to her Duchess and to the Empress, but otherwise most of the Brigade is composed of private militias owing nominal allegiance to their local Duchess. Each unit is free to make its own treaties and hire itself out.

Honestly Fred she really had no choice BUT to accept it. Even if you DID call Jinjur out on treason or sedition charges there are two flaws with it:
One: being a male hyena it would effectively be seen as an upset of natural order and not only potential subordination but a guyena challenge sheyena authority. You would need to AT LEAST have your claim supported by a sheyena of enough rank/repute to make it sustainable and that leads to my other point.
Two: even if you did have all the guards ready to arrest her it sounds to me like duels are not only fairly common but are some level of legal in Rackenroon society. So even if you did manage to get her on treason charges it could very easily be blown into a strike on out would be heir's future authority by attempting to dodge said duel. And again having come from a guyena would do nothing but support that possibility.
We need to face it: Jinjur had all the cards and played everyone like a damn fiddle. But there seems to be a light at the end of this tunnel yet.

Yes, you have the meat of it, as they say in Kiyanti.
Fred does have some authority, because he is the Duchess's Adjutant, as well as commanding the Household Guard. He was hoping that Jinjur would make some sort of physical threat to the Duchess, so he would be justified by calling his guards to capture her--this was why he was gesturing to Koz during the banquet. He probably also had Captain Azkikka in on his plan, since she was present with a spear, and Songween had earlier stated that weapons would not be allowed at the party. And the dancers from the Loweza were also armed--"part of their act," yes, but ready to defend their lord and master and the Duchess if need be.
Fred had his players in place. Kathy went and changed the game.

What bothers me is how does challenging Kathy act as a threat toward the Duchess when the Duchess brought her in specifically as a potential heir?
Politically speaking Jinjur has the right to challenge Kathy as the heir apparent if she believes that Kathy may be unfit to take over.
Then again I probably forgot something didn't I?

They were waiting for Jinjur to do something physical, which she did not, so they could not act.
The insults Jinjur was slinging around, however, could be construed as traitorous. Considering how rigid Crocutan social order is, just having jinjur dare to question Songween's decision, is treasonous.

Fred holds a very high office in the Rackenroon government. It's like having a woman in charge of the army--the male soldiers and officers may not respect her as a person, but they are forced to obey her because of the position she holds. (Yeah, sexist. Deal with it. It's the best metaphor I can think of quickly.)
If Songween had a Generalissima, it would be her duty to call out threats to Songween's rule. Fred serves as Songween's de facto Generalissimo.

See, that's where I run into trouble, because I personally have trouble with remembering that "strict social stratification."
But just like we are no longer following the strict chimpanzee social order model, these hyenas have a somewhat more flexible society. And to be honest, I've read about a clan that was led by the male offspring of the last matriarch. We assume a lot about hyena culture, but every time I do research, I find something new.
If all males were subservient to all females, the Brigade couldn't function, because if they fought another Brigade unit, the males would back off. If the strict hierarchy was observed, then everyone below General would back off. And if one general was a member of a high-caste family--battle over, amigo.
But my work-around is that you only have to observe the caste in your own clan. You meet someone from another clan, you can act aggressively toward them. And if you're in the Brigade, your unit is a version of your clan.
I don't have a lot of personal experience with social castes, but I was brought up to be respectful of my elders and people in positions of authority, as well as to be polite to everyone, regardless of who they are. So the deferential part is easy; it's the part where those higher on the ladder get to stomp on those below them that I have trouble with.

In a way that is what keeps throwing me off and keeps the writing engaging.
Rather than a strict adherence you worked layers and loopholes into the writing to allow for greater nuance.
And you even taught me somw things I didn't know. But Fred is based off that male hyena and his mother is the 'matriarch' isn't he? Call me out if I'm wrong.

Kathy has a valid point, despite Fred's protestations to the contrary. Vyschuss is, regardless of how obtuse she may be, Jinjur's confidant and ally. If she shifts her loyalty to the other side, it will certainly impact Jinjur's plans. What would it take to get her to sell out? How much can she eat?
