The car dropped me off at the Cable Car Museum. Again, admission was free, and again I ignored the reminders that I needed a bit of maintenance.

Right inside the entrance is an old sheave, the term for the huge wheels that pulled and guided the cables that the cars were attached to.

The Museum includes exhibits on the origins of the system and its growth, the effects of the 1906 Earthquake, and the gradual consolidation and disappearance of many of the separate cable car companies in the city.
