The Cable Car Museum also houses the cable system and powerhouse. This was not a static display; these sheaves were moving the cables along for each of the four lines still extant. Made for a certain level of background noise as I made my way around the exhibits.

I visited there years ago. one of the things that impressed me was when a stopped car grabbed onto the cable, the whole cable slowed down as the car was smoothly brought up to speed. and the giant sliding tensioner wheels would slide closer to the drive wheels with a crashing noise, then slide back to normal as the whole line got brought up to speed.
