Firstly, thanks to everyone who came to the Nordguard Sneak Peek Panel last Saturday at FC! Hope you enjoyed it!
And now, with FurtherConfusion behind me, it's time to hit the drawing board in earnest--literally, I suppose. I have a long stretch between now and those far distant deadlines and old obligations. This is the time (6 months or so) I've set aside to devote 100% of my waking life into the comic's completion. I'm still expecting an official release date announced this year and I believe (barring blizzards, meteor showers and spontaneous combustion) we're right on track.
That said, expect more updates. For instance, between today and yesterday, there's another 4 pages on paper and the night's still young! 40 some pages down, only another 60 some to go. I think I'll need more coffee.
The scene I'm currently working on takes place in a way station somewhere between point A and point B. The team's dressed down for camp and their last hot meal for a while...I realized midway I didn't have any "under garments" designed for Freki and Pi to be hanging out in when they aren't decked out for subzero temperatures, so I had to work those out before cleaning up the page for it's eventual painting. And, as it happens, sketching those typical warm-up scribbles derailed into drawing Nordguard chicks in their sexy turn-of-the-century military-esque undies.
Now, of course, you can see larger images over on blogspot or the Nordguard LiveJournal, and a ton more stuff on the Nordguard Website.

Looks average, but they really don't have any figure at all. And by that I mean, they look male but with boobs. They have no curves, their hips are extremely narrow and shoulders broad. They also seem to have huge man-hands. Not my favorite piece from you two, and a little disappointing. I do, however, love the Greenland's colors and both of their neck-fur. :D
Considering their line of work, I'd say its kinda logical that they not be overly-feminine. High amounts of exercise lead to a low bodyfat percentage. Low bodyfat = smaller boobs, less curves. If they are working women, they're also obviously going to have more physical development than your average city-living bimbo. Not to say any of the visual things you pointed out in your comment are wrong, its just that there's a -reason- for it being so.
While I don't agree entirely with Stray (I don't think they need more fat than they have already given their rather extreme lifestyle) I think the female husky could do with bigger hips. I think that would make her look a bit stouter and more heavily built, she's looking a little top heavy at the moment.
Obviously you're probably too far into Nordguard to make any changes, or perhaps you like the smaller-hips look, but it's something to consider anyway for any other female characters you might have in the future or if you update her look in the next issue.
Here's some Russian women that might be a good reference.

Hope that's helpful, or at least interesting to look at. It's got me wanting to draw some more varying female body types anyway. Great job and I really love that border collie's face.

Hey, thanks for the links and the feedback! Sadly, the links don't seem to work (the comment's box cuts off long links, it seems.) If you want to note 'em to me, I'd be obliged. :]
As to hips--yeah, I agree. These were (as I mentioned) just kind of a kick-start to the day in terms of drawing, which I figured I'd color (in a vague effort of procrastination which amounted into more work.) In the actual comic panels, I'll make sure to pay more mind to their figures. ;]

Because Inuit/Athabaskan women aren't typically as tall or steely eyed. Plus all the photos I found of them had them covered in obstructive furs. These Russian female atheletes have a good body type (tall, lean, muscular) and there's far more photos of them, plus they're descended from cold-weather stock.

Well, Im not going to give another comment below on how they dont look like girls because a lot of people said it so far and blotch might just get fedup of the repitition. But I will say I do agree with this statement, and part of Strays- but not to the point Im going to tell blotch that im "dissapointed in them" because thats getting out of line. They shouldnt be expected to always HAVE to pump out jaw dropping art.
I think giving more feminine facial features would help immensely to the situation aswell.

Eh? I think you're confusing me with someone else. Blotch respondedly favorably to my comment and I didn't say anything negative, only gave some constructive criticism on where they might want to take that the character if they so desire. And it's hardly a repetition. If you read the comments above me, they did not give the same suggestions I did, only pointed out that something was off.
There's a difference between a comment that is intended to help and assist with the knowledge that it's the artist's discretion, and one that simply points out flaws with little want to help or improve the art.

Whoa there. didnt express myself properly i guess? I was agreeing with you. Not against you. I was just saying I wont write my own comment saying how they dont look like girls, because its already been said like 80 times. Any dissagreement was with stray's comment.
It's great to see you drawing the occasional female!
Great expressions and technique, as usual. My only issue is: they appear to essentially have a male build identical (or close) to your usual male builds (strongly muscled, broad upper bodies, with a comparatively low/male-like hip:waist ratio) - the only difference is they have breasts.
Now, I have a similar squarish/male-ish build (except not as built XD), and I'm female, so they do exist - just wondering if it was intentional to make them look so strongly masculine?

In a way I'm surprised at many of the above comments. Did these people forget they are on a furry site? A picture archive of anthropomorphics - which by definition contain aspects of the humans and non human? "How terrible! They don't look like (human) women!" Well, yes. There's a pretty good reason for that...
I know it's really annoying when you usually draw one thing and people who prefer another thing demand you draw more of it as soon as you draw it at all.
But you really draw women fantastically. Most people that stick to one gender have obvious flaws when trying the other, but that's not the case for you at all. I really hope you draw them a lot more.
