Nice! A clockwork griffin!

There's gotta be a story behind that...

I'd be happy to tell it, but it is multi-paragraph in length, so if you want to know, prepare for a text wall. :P

The girl with the bow made/can summon the mechanical griffin as her protector/spirit animal?

In any event, it's a very complex and well-made creation.

Kevur was a feral gryphon that was found dead by a scientist of the Spark variety, who thought it could make a pretty competent soldier/butler. Long story short, he replaced most of the organs, the wings, the face etc with metal to make it look more pleasing to the eye, and then tried to program it to follow his instructions. Casimir, the elemental of chaos, arranged for an outage in one of the computers, so the programming didn't take correctly, so after the lightning strike, Kevur was rendered insane and escaped the scientist's castle. Casimir then bestowed upon it the position of Air Elemental, (which explains how weather is so crazy and unpredictable), and thus shows up all over the place, channelling currents, arranging systems et al.

On this occasion, the manifestation is due to the young girl wielding the legendary Hurricane Bow, a bow that fires arrows that generate a cataclysmic rush of air as they pass.

Girl Genius is amazing.

It is--I just wish they'd actually conclude a storyline from time to time, instead of jumping off on another adventure. I've been reading it for nearly twenty years now...
