Icetail was adopted when she was 12 by Whitney's parents shortly after Whitney left for her rite of passage as the Breath of Winter. She was eager to meet her new sister when she got back but she never returned. Whitney's disappearance​ prompted an ambitious Ice mage to attempt to usurp Whitney's position as the Breath of Winter. The pack elders' judgement was clouded by fear for the safety of the pack with Whitney missing and they allowed him to steal Whitney's role. Icetail challenged him constantly refusing to believe her sister wasn't coming back and was repeatedly punished by the tyrannical false Breath. One day though the ice mage found himself challenged by an outsider with snow white fur and icy blue eyes wearing clothes offering no protection from the cold, she was accompanied by a much more warmly dressed girl with golden fur and extremely long hair. The ice mage used the power of winter against the outsiders thinking it would demonstrate that he was truly the Breath of Winter, but he was stunned when the stranger simply swept his power aside like it was nothing. Icetail (who was locked in a suspended ice cage as punishment for her last outburst to the ice mage) saw the display and knew it was Whitney.
"What trickery is this" he bellowed "no one can stand up to the Breath of Winter... Who are you?" Whitney locked her icy gaze on him
"I am what you pretend to be," she said and the wind began to rise
"I am the cold" the temperature began to drop
"I am the wind" a howling gale blew through them
"I, am Whitney Snowbell... The TRUE Breath of Winter" the ice mage growled and threw a spear of ice at her but it shattered to snowflakes and turned back on him swirling around him like a twister, his body began to freeze in place, ice forming over his whole body.
"Your ice magic can do nothing against me" the miniature blizzard stopped and the ice vanished dropping him to the ground "and you aren't worth my time" she said showing mercy "as the true Breath of Winter I banish you from this territory, and you may never return" she walked away from him taking the hand of the girl she'd arrived with. With a snap of her fingers the ice cages shattered and freed everyone the ice mage had imprisoned. Icetail ran after her sister and after finding out she wasn't staying, asked to go with her. Whitney was happy to oblige and took her home to a place called the Refuge where she met a flirty young husky girl called Honeyfur whom she became best friends with. Honeyfur loves to tease Icetail always flirting with her and asking for kisses in return for favours, this gives Icetail mixed feelings as to whether she likes it or not.
