Wraith found Aquara trapped in a landlocked pool of water she'd gone to the pool as to rest while she was travelling to find a new River but the pool wasn't deep enough to get her enough strength to travel far enough. She was unable to leave since she couldn't survive long out of water she had become a little desperate to get away manifesting herself to any and all who passed asking to be taken away from this small pool offering her scales (which were considered highly valuable), rare gems, but she was young (for a water spirit) and naive and was often convinced to give her end of the deal first. She felt like she'd been cursed, everyone she tried to deal with either ran away or just took what she offered and left her there. She felt alone and, since she'd given her scales, and to a couple of travellers a certain other part of her body, abused. She was just starting to give up when she felt someone gently placing things in her water, she manifested on the surface seeing a smiling blue furred wolf crouched at the edge of her pool she didn't even want to make an offer to him and just started to dissolve again.
"Wait," he said "I want to help you, and don't worry, I'm not here to take anything​ from you, in fact, I've brought you some of your scales back" Aquara looked to see floating on the surface several of her scales, she touched her hip where they had come from. The last traveller she'd met had been particularly cruel to her, he'd demanded her body, which he was not gentle with, and torn away some of her scales before casting her aside when he was done and abandoning her in her pool, that had been almost 2 months ago, that experience had made her not want to try dealing with travellers any more. She took the scales and restored them.
"Thank you" she said
"I found him boasting about what he did to you asked him where you were and made him hand over your scales... He wasn't keen" the wolf said "My name is Wraith, I run a refuge not too far from here, there's a lot of rivers running through the valley and I'm a little concerned about them, my children are starting to want to play in the shallows and my mate is already terrified of water... I'd like to make YOU an offer, I'll take you away from here and to the rivers in my Valley, in return I'd like you to act as a sort of lifeguard, just keep an eye on anyone in the water and if they seem like they're panicked or fell in just bring them back to shore. Beyond that you can have free range of the rivers... What do you say?" Aquara didn't need to think, she smiled
"It sounds great" she started to get excited, Wraith took out a jar from his bag and filled it with water she dissolved herself into the water and manifested inside the jar although much smaller. He kept his promise and took her away to a valley and brought her to the riverside pouring her into the water. She manifested and burst up from the water like a dolphin it'd been some time since she'd had so much room, she was delighted. She climbed out of the water changing her mermaid-like tail to a pair of legs and stood by her saviour and thanked him hugging him before jumping back into the river. Since then she's kept her end of the deal staying in the Refuge's rivers to keep them safe.
