A sketch idea for a landing craft.
One of the first Sen-Rau missions to planets in the Syo system involved collosal diving landers, like cruise ships-come-factories with wings.
After coasting interplanetary distances using a nuclear engine tow, three landers were used to colonise the rainforest world, Oriet. They broke through the thick atmosphere with a large heatshield that converted the energy of descent into braking fields.
Large gliding wings spread these enormous fields to help the landers reach their designated sites, where 4 huge lased-uranium engines took over to bring the huge colony vehicles to ground.
Once they landed the large hemispherical volumes discharged their various cargoes using the spinal crane and fleet of heavy transport rovers, which later become the seeds of various cities and townships near the landing field.
The first lander on Oriet became a central architectural landmark in the city of Orietkara. 500 years later the fuselage is still visible and serves as a Orietian cultural temple dedicated to astronomy.
