People often react pretty strongly to being told they're not allowed to be somewhere without good reason. You ever see Fists of Fury? I considered putting in a sign which read "no foxes or Chinese allowed" but I wasn't sure how many people would get the reference :p
As for the squared tufts of fur, I feel like I got that idea from some comic I saw a long time ago which featured a cartoonish feral fox character, but I can't remember the name of it

I vaguely remember "Fists of Fury" and here I was such a big Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan fan back in the 1980s. I'll have to look into that.
The squared off tufts of fur do look "Cool" in a way and add a bit of "Personality" to the character. When had to cut the mats of fur off my pet dog with scissors, she'd have little, squared off tufts of fur kind of like that. They'd grow back though.
Could it be necessity became a fur styling statement?
