BugDogs - temperament and overview:
Recently domesticated, these medium-sized fuzzy critters natively live in the forests and swamps of Joarca. The wild ones are very shy, while domesticated bugdogs are very upbeat, playful, and extremely loyal. They make excellent guards over a home or item and are smart enough to learn commands. As their popularity as a pet grows, slowly stardragons across Joarca are beginning to selectively breed them for different traits.
Appearance:
All bugdogs have a gem on their nose and on the top of their back on their wing armor. These gems aren't bound to their life force, but observation of bugdogs with cracked gems shows a tendency toward lost intelligence, and a small loss of dexterity. Their wing armour and hooves are both made of a very tough chitin-like material, almost impossible to dent or scratch. The gossamer insectoid wings are too small to lift them in flight except for during their puppy stages; a full-grown adult uses their wings to help gain lift in leaping jumps to take down prey. The whiskers on a bugdog will tell you their rough age - they grow about one to two inches a year after puppyhood.
Morphs:
Some bugdogs are smaller and fuzzier, with curled tails and antennae. Some are leaner and have more chitin spikes and less fur, with narrower snouts. A very rare few have butterfly or dragonfly wings instead of beetle wings. There are even rumors of smaller wild bugdogs with wings big enough to fly freely.
