Even if it looks as promising as a fruit cheesecake behind a counter, it is precisely that. Trevor is a grown up man and he knows where the limits are. I don’t believe he would consider having sex with Alex (sorry people with daddy issues) because he’s a student and more important he’s his friend’s (and ex-lover) son. He decided he had to pass on Diego because he couldn’t commit emotionally and having sex with Alex would only mean he (Trevor) couldn’t get over Diego. He wouldn’t love Alex but Diego and would be replacing the father for the son.
