I believe in most cases, when we are surrounded by darkness, our minds have a tendency to play tricks on us; having us believe things are there with us or looming in the blackness. I’m sure as kids, some of us were afraid of the dark because we couldn’t see what was in front of us unless there was some source of light. Are there monsters in the darkness or are we panicking for no reason? Now a days, a dark room we’re familiar with wouldn’t rattle us in the slightest…but there are other places that can scare us even as adults. The reason for this? The darkness itself! I’m sure we would be less afraid of things we could see, as there no reason to wonder what was there. However…there are some places that will always be shrouded in darkness and thus mystery. The fear of the unknown can cause us to think about what may or may not be lurking within the shadowy confines; and more often than not our imagination is what makes things so terrifying. Aside from space, which is an endless canvas of ebony; there is one place that we visit a bit more often that is just as daunting. The ocean’s abyss: a watery tomb of darkness where the light of the sun cannot reach. We have yet to discover what lies at the bottom of the sea…or if one even exists. For the few of us who have visited the ocean’s dark embrace, I can imagine simply being there can be quite unnerving. How much so? Well, I feel this report might paint a pretty vivid picture.

Research Report #191017
Day 4: Thus far research on the various marine life has gone relatively smooth and the staff has made various discoveries that may shed more light on creatures we were previously unable to study. However, while our studies have offered us more information, there have been rather concerning occurrences that we have yet to discover the causes for. As of day 2 the staff and I have been encountering odd activity on some of our sensors. While we have picked up activity on smaller marine life, we have detected a larger presence on our radars that we have yet to encounter. We are currently unsure what this new creature could be due to no larger animals having being recorded to dwell at this depth. From what our sensors tell us this animal seems to spend a majority of its time around our vessel, but we have not been able to examine its behavior or appearance. In addition, our sonars have been picking up strange sounds that somewhat resemble speech; but as no one can survive at this depth, we must assume that some of our recording equipment must be malfunctioning; however, there is something rather peculiar about this. Given how clear and undisturbed the audio is, a technical malfunction may not be the cause. The engineers assured us that the equipment was new, but we will continue to survey the area for new developments in spite of the possible equipment errors. We hope to arrive back to the labs with new date and hopefully have our equipment checked for any other malfunctions.
Hmm…an interesting report, but I don’t think the researchers would be able to comprehend what their scanners found and if they could…I doubt others may believe it. I guess whatever the researchers found will continue to remain a mystery…to them. This amazing piece was done by
strype who did a magnificent job featuring Levyne swimming in the ocean’s abyss, using only her glow to peer into the darkness! I hope you all enjoy! Now I think it’s time for some air!
*TRIVIA: Levyne has stated that one of her favorite animals are turtles, as well as one of the few aquatic creatures she won’t eat regardless of hunger.
