As of posting this, is has been exactly one year since I uploaded the first colored concept of the Viali. This is a re-draw of that concept, to mark this milestone.

For me personally it's amazing to think that a year has already gone by when it comes to the development of my species, the Viali. I initially created the Viali to act as a tribute to RyuujinZERO's Avali species, and to Ryuujin himself - with small nods to them sprinkled throughout Viali lore and names. This still holds true, of course.


I created the Viali because for many years now I've wanted to have a species of my own that I could 'get lost in', or rather, build up and flesh out to the point where I can immerse myself into the culture I have created. A year later and I feel I have personally succeeded in this. This developmental time period hasn't been without hitch though - I was approached more than once by a few individuals who have said bad things about the Viali and I, but I move forward regardless because it seems there are many more who appreciate the Viali in some form or another.

At the root of it all, the Viali are a personal project of mine. I don't intend for them to get popular, and I don't intend for them to get adapted to other media or etc. If that happens, however, all the better I say, and I won't oppose it. I created the Viali out of a personal goal, and I've been sharing them and their development because I figured there is no harm in it, and people seem to enjoy my art (which I'm all too happy about, by the way <3 ).

This piece in-and-of-itself may not be anything special in its own right, but it's special to me for the sole reason that it marks the one-year milestone in the development of the Viali. I've put countless hours of thought into many areas of their society, their world, and many other aspects of the species. This milestone doesn't mark the end of their development, but rather just another stepping-stone in their continued development moving forward. As I've said a few times before, I don't plan on halting work on the Viali, simply because I've put my heart and soul into them; I've come this far, why stop now?


Alas, for those of you who have shown interest in the Viali at all, I can't thank you enough because you've in-part kept me motivated to keep working on the species, keep drawing, and help keep me moving forward. Without you, and subsequently my watchers as well, I most likely would have lost motivation to continue working on them long ago. Once more, thank you for sticking with me - knowing anyone appreciates what I do at all makes me feel happier, and less like I'm cursed to go unnoticed.


Thanks again for being with me if you've been here before, and if you're new to the Viali, then I hope you like them. I look forward to continued development of the Viali.
