Well I kept stopping to do other things, but um... about... 15-20 minutes per pic, if I include the time it took to scan and resize.

nah, i just meant the time to sketch it out.
if you really want to loosen it up and "feel" out what your doing try nice long stokes with something soft (like charcoal)

I hate charcoal, because, well. I tend to feel the paper a lot and I end up with it all over me and a smeary drawing. Plus I tend to draw small. This is about 6x4 inches, which is pretty big for me, and one the cheapest paper I could find, seriously. It's a pad of 70 sheets of scribble paper for $1. It feels like newspaper. That keeps me from wanting to press down too hard like I often have a habit of doing. I'm not sure why, but the cheaper a paper is, the more I have fun drawing on it. Past this, my favourite paper is bits of cardboard boxes I get from work. Probably only took 10 minutes for this one, then.
