Apart from being a great picture, your words struck home hard for me. All my closest friends lived overseas - mostly in the USA, and I live in a different hemisphere. I used to go to North America every summer. Then I got a medical condition which prevented me from flying, and eventually even driving. The grief of separation was hard enough, but then my two closest friends both died suddenly and unexpectedly within a year of each other - one by heart attack, the other by suicide. And the others I've inevitably almost completely lost contact with. It's been over 15 years since I've seen any of them, and the feeling of loss is with me all the time.

I'm not making this up; the day after I wrote that reply, a friend contacted me that he's going to commit suicide over the next two weeks by starvation/dehydration. This is someone I've known a long time, and doesn't live overseas, but it just seems to keep coming. No comment nescessary.
