Miranda was overwhelmed with excitement, seeing the visage of someone long passed standing before her with a response to his new surroundings. He was certainly a great looker, being defaulted to his favorite jacket and usual casual clothing. "Uh, huh, wow, this place is nice? Wherever this is, I guess...excuse me, who are you, and where the heck am I?" Delta asked, looking around before becoming aware of Miranda. Hmm, well he certainly got to the point, as she hadn't exactly prepared notes for what she'd say to him. So she gestured him to a seat so they could continue talking.
"Hmm, how to put this where it doesn't seem unbelievable... I'm gonna be direct with you, Mr. Arroyo. I'm a descendant of you and Miranda, and it's around a thousand years from your time. This is a simulated space, you're a copy of the original Delta's memories, and I'm doing a historical study." Miranda answered, not skipping a beat with her introduction, but seemingly explaining less than she intended. Delta blinked in bewilderment, almost like he was the subject of a prank. He stood up and scratched his chin, pacing in a circle before sitting down again. "So, I'm like my own brain from the past, we're in the future for a family tree project, and you look like my girlfriend, but you say your a descendant, and it's the future. Is future food still the same? Wait, I'm not, like, ya know, real, so that's pointless. Hmm, yeah, not really sold so far." Delta replied, gesturing slowly along with his words.
Miranda had figured it'd be his whole sum of memories at once, but maybe he was scanned only once in a test and it worked. That was kind of disheartening, but maybe there was a reason they didn't try again. Not like she could actually ask though, because it was only the memory from THAT day and before. So she figured that she'd talk about herself after hearing about him from him directly. There was only so much a historical archive could provide. "So, Del, gramps...how's about a story for me? I'd REALLY love to hear about yoyrself from you directly." She prompted, seeing him sigh and get comfortable in his chair.
"Alright, I guess start with my name. Delmont Timothy Arroyo, Delta all at once, and yes, I don't look like a Timothy, Delmot is also an uncommon name too. I have four siblings, two brothers and two sisters, all younger than me. I play bass guitar in my spare time, I work as an auto technician, but I'm also pretty good at coding and computers. I like video games too, if they aren't all VR these days like I'm guessing, but that's cool if they are, I'm sure they're cool." Delta exposited, digressing at the very end. He tapped his chin as he thought of more to say, perhaps waiting for specific questions. He was right, since Miranda had plenty, but luckily there was plenty of time since he was basically a saved personality in her Hindsight device.
"So, Del, anything you can tell about your wi- girlfriend, Miranda? You two work on a project about brain scanning? That's kinda the whole kickstarter of this kind of future. Not sure about the details because they were all locked until earlier this half of the decade. Like a time capsule that was set for WAY too far in the future. Obviously we don't have time travel, otherwise I'd just watch it myself, but you know, paradoxes and whatnot, especially since I look like her." Miranda explained, pulling up several pictures from her excursions into old memories. Del looked at the floating screens with a smirk and nodded. "Yep, the 'NTS' as an acronym for-" "Neural Transmitter Sync." "Yeah, that. So, I helped to cobble it together with my ability to get the necessary, and very specific, annoyingly specific, parts. I also did a bit of coding on it, mostly regurgitating the intended commands to make it turn on and start one of several functions." Delta began, Miranda excitedly interjecting the device name, before Del finished, leading to more questions.
"So, what DID it do? At least what was it SUPPOSED to do?" Miranda asked, tail wagging in her excitement as Del put his hands up for her to slow down. "Woah, easy, I wasn't too privy on the end results. I mean, you probably already figured that I can only remember so much. Yeah, I started it up and volunteered to sit in the 'hot seat of the future' and as you can tell it worked. Maybe there's a second half to my memory you can find, or maybe it was deleted, or, or, this is a really big one. Or I wasn't the same person afterwards, Miranda and I had a future that wasn't me, and I am now here. The incomplete file, but I may be of help still." Delta explained, Miranda's tail still wagging until the halfway point, hearing the sad part of his tale, and that her hunt for clarity was delayed.
"So, I, uh, can't exactly remember the specific day that this happened. I mean, someone has to remember, right? Can't you pull up the, no, wait, that's why you're asking me. Hmmm, gimme a minute..." Delta started, Miranda pacing in her thoughts for a solution. "Wait! Wait wait wait! I have a faint idea that may just help us. Now, I'm not sure how many minds you can fit in that future VCR of yours, but he may just be able to help..." Delta began, seeing Miranda's gears turning too. She knew who he meant, she had the space, and it was worth a shot. "Oh, since I'm guessing you need time for that you mind if I play a game or something? Would that be like VR-ception? Maybe a racing game if you got one, I'm already wearing my jacket." Delta asked, seeing Miranda pulling up a menu, then an access board popping up over Delta's wrist. "There, subsystem access to apps. Have fun, gramps, and thanks for helping. I'll see you in a bit." Mirand said, waving to him as she put the Hindsight in sleep mode so Del would still be running. This was a lot to take in, and she needed someone to talk to.
