Pete is actually the oldest Disney character still in use, having started out in Walt's first successful franchise, the Alice comedies. (1925's "Alice Solves the Puzzle", to be exact.) He started out looking much more like a bear, but officially became a cat when the Mickey Mouse franchise took over, at which time he became much fatter.
