This is a cover of a relatively obscure song by Neil Innes of the Bonzo Dog Doodah Band. There weren't any decent renditions on youtube (though there were several pretty bad versions) so I decided to do my own, following the album version as closely as was practical with my limited instrumental abilities.
I never did quite get the crushed piano sound down pat, but it will do. I suspect they chained a bunch of very expensive 1968-era compressors together and cranked them all up. Either way, this song was great fun to do.
As with the original version, mine was recorded on an 8-track analogue setup and mixed to 1/4" tape.
Varispeed effects were performed on a Studer A807 using a lot of trial and error.
The original song can be found on the album "The Doughnut in Granny's Greenhouse" which apparently is or was a euphemism for an outdoor toilet.
