A new adaptation of something old that shakes up the formula from previous incarnation is not "all around wrong." The so called "Crappy animation," the style is meant to invoke a mix of Western and Anime -- while also matching up with the style of both the art and the writing. As for Raph being the leader, just because he never was doesn't mean he can't be. He's not the smart-ass from the 80s version of the hot-head from the other cartoon adaptations. "Rise of" Raph is represented as being the eldest (by maybe a few minutes) of the four brothers and, like Ripster in "Street Sharks," takes on the responsibility of looking after Leo, Donny and Mike (since Splinter in this version isn't doing anything other than sit on his ass and watching TV).
