--History--

Born in the small shire of Lumeire, Vaelyn was the son of a Knight and a Cleric. Vaelyn was trained from a young age to be proficient in the ways of the sword by his father, Raemuth Edrias. However, his tutelage by his father was short lived, as the man was slain on the battle field while his son was only 7 years of age. His mother raised him to be polite, even-tempered, and reasonable to ensure he did not grow up to be the same man as his father, who was a rather abrasive and unpleasant person to be around. Since the Edrias family was on good terms with the Duke of Lumeire, his childhood would be considered easy by most.

At the age of 16, the young man joined the Order of the Red, the Duke's personal order of knights, as a squire. He served under a stern but kind knight named Greidus, who took the young squire as an apprentice in the finer arts of the sword. Greidus would then introduce his new pupil to a mage named Wylun, who saw an immaculate potential for magic arts within the boy. The pair were responsible for Vaelyn choosing to walk the path of the Spellsword, considered to be one of the most challenging walks of life by any self-respecting warrior.

As the years passed, Vaelyn came to his own, rising through the ranks of his company until he held the title of Red Knight, the same title his father held. It was on a fateful day that the young man would be out on his patrols when he stumbled across a woman and child being pursued by a demon, a lesser incubus. Without hesitation, Vaelyn stepped in, proving to be an even match for the demon in combat. However, before the Jackal could get the upper hand and end the incubus, the fiend cast a hex upon the knight, cursing him and making it's escape. Vaelyn returned to his town facing a crisis he had never expected, he was branded with the mark of Soulfire, a curse that would cause his own magic to consume his lifeforce if not properly fed with the life of other beings.

Feeling he may become a threat to his allies, Vaelyn resigned from his order and left his home, taking a lonely journey through the Empire of Alymbia in search of the demon that cursed him, as he knew the only ways to be rid of this curse would be to recieve Benediction from a high holy figure, or slay the one who branded him. His mission is clear, rid himself of this curse, or die before becoming a danger to the people around him.

--Personality--

Vaelyn can be seen as a fairly serious and straightforward person. He holds a sense of confidence befitting a knight, and rarely allows emotion to influence his decision making. In spite of this, he is a protector. He will do anything in his power to defend those that can't defend themselves, and holds a deep rooted code of honor in his heart. He has a habit of being blunt in conversation, and won't mince words to try and spare one's feelings.

In combat, Vaelyn fights ferociously, weaving spells cast with his left hand while using deft, lethally precise strokes of his blade in the right. He will go for a killing blow as soon as possible against his opponents, unless engaged in a duel.
