odd, i dont fully understand what missingno is
all i can assume is that it was a test pokemon to well, test the moves to see the animations and ensure they work properly, but never got properly removed from the game
unless it was a remnant of mew who was attempted to be removed from the game, and thats basically what brought about missingno

Err, old post is old, but I have an answer!
MissingNo is short for Missing Number; a reference to the fact that Pokemon were coded into the game using hex numbers. Not all of the numbers were used though, with only 151 in the original generation, so garbage data was used in the filler spaces unused by the game. Unfortunately, there turned out to be a way to get the game to use those junk hex codes, and the results were MissingNo and Pokemon M.

Okay. I know this is a few years old, but I just have to say that this made me laugh until I got tears in my eyes! Especially when I saw that you set the species to "avian" (Considering that Missingno is in fact a "bird-pokemon"; as far as I know the only one, with the possible exceptions of other glitch pokemons).
It's easily my favorite pokemon. To bad it's not in any later games.
