The transformation complete, the weresquid is now in the water. During this stage, there weresquid will attack anything that moves (and almost anything that doesn't move).
Weresquid rarely survive for long, due to the human's need to breathe air, and a squid's need to breathe water. Because of the weresquid's almost mindless behavior during their change, if they go into the ocean, it is rather impossible for them to ensure being near land when the transformation has completed. Tidepools are one of the few things that can help a weresquid to survive for a prolonged period of time with the affliction.

Unfortunately, when you're dealing with a serious restructuring of the nervous system (the stuff in charge of sensing what's pain and what's pancakes), it's kind of hard to avoid pain.
Also, losing your bones, growing new organs and getting a different anatomy can't be too fun either.
Besides, why do you think werebeasts violently attack anything that moves? They're pissed off, that's why! You would be too if you had just had the same experience.
