Centuries ago, on October 31st, a strange sickness had broken out. A bizarre goo like substance had completely covered an individual, covering them in a soft brown coating, and turning their head into a similar design of that of a pumpkin. Except it had glowing round eyes, and a jagged, almost toothy mouth that also gave off a strange flickering glow. A small hard stump grew atop their heads as well.
The sickness spread like wildfire. The first infected had left his home at night and snuck up on a young couple out on a lovely walk below the moonlight. After simply touching them they too became one of these plant like creatures. Before long the nearby town was infected. Then the nearby villages, even an entire castle had fallen victim. The people thought it was created by the devil himself.
After the night passed however, it seemed to vanish. The goo had dissolved, and though some were killed in that night out of fear, the fear soon passed and all returned. But so did the disease next year. Out of nowhere each person on that night became infected again. This time, however, there was much less mercy that befell those who had become possessed.
Throughout the years these creatures were slaughtered if they were spotted. It was thought that none had survived. But a few still lingered in the world, learning to hide themselves away when the night drew near.
Mooky was one such person. Though in the recent years, hiding became unnecessary. A strange celebration that had lost its original meaning was exactly the thing Mooky needed to be able to blend in for a night. What was once a celebration of the eradication of this disease, was now a mere dress up show off to get candy. And these creatures had one weakness that the people of old never discovered: their sweet tooth. If given sweets, the creatures would leave you alone. And so Mooky accepted his fate and went out on the 31st of October, getting sweets from the locals, blending in as a mere trick or treater.
