Sometimes certain spells have a delayed backfire. The spell might appear to have failed but the magic just dissipated into the air and is taking its sweet time to return to the source, and when it does it hits hard. Here I've found myself stuck on the ground with a belly heavy with magic. Doesn't seem I'll be going anywhere soon so I might as well get comfy. It wouldn't hurt to cast the spell again...
