This is a theme very near and dear to me, obviously, as it is my lived experience. My partner and I are always joking-- or not at all joking-- about my 'being a bird' as a shorthand for being a very sensitive person who is both strong and very easily hurt by nature. (Or perhaps that is where the strength comes from in the first place.)
