This is the base character I made for Hypnovember. I won’t focus too much on background detail too much, just a general story of how he got roped into being here for hypnovember.

One Halloween night Derry had planned a Halloween party at his place for all of his friends. It wasn’t a particularly large party, there was probably only gonna be about 3-5 friends arriving. Until a snow-storm kicked up, and no one could make it there. He was waiting for his friends from out of town to arrive, so he could show them this strange looking board game he found in the attic so they could all figure it out and explore it together.
But after he finished chatting with them online in the wake of the cancellation, he figured that he may as well check the game out, so that next time he could give them more of a surprise/discern the actual quality of the game.
The Board did actually have single player instructions, actually there was a separate instruction booklet all together! And so Derry dove straight into the game’s rules and story, that had been laid out right before him.
What ultimately ended up happening, was that the game had tricked him into performing a demonic ritual, one which sent him into a deep trance, and was priming him to potentially serve a supernatural demon, a succubus/incubus, an imp-lord, or whatever otherworldly entity was going to hop through the portal to claim their new toy.
...But as Derry was sitting there waiting to be claimed, with the suggestions and conditioning spells invading, shaping and melding into his mind, no one ever came through that portal.
He woke up the next morning, convinced that it was all just a really vivid dream.
The next few months seemed uneventful, though everything had somewhat of a different vibe ever since that Halloween night, and he’d recall having strange dreams more often than not.
It struck him as odd, and he’d think about what happened from time to time, but overall he never really concerned himself about it.
Until one morning in July, he woke up to the realization that he had small grey cat-ears sticking out of his head!
When he got a check up at the doctor/magic specialist to reverse what he thought was just a transformation prank by one of the furry anthro rascals, for some reason, they couldn’t outright reverse it.
Eventually after moving from doctor to doctor until reaching the right one, Derry was told that, as it turned out, his essence and soul energy had actually been tampered with. And ever since last Halloween, something had been very slowly draining away at Derry’s Will Power, little by little.
The Doctor couldn’t figure out all the details about what was happening with his soul and aura, but the specialists were at least able to recognize that some kind of spell or curse had been broadcasting some kind of potent subliminal signal out from within Derry, broadcasting that he was a mindless thrall, that was ready to be claimed. At the level which even if you aren’t trained in these waves, normal non-magic proficient citizens could probably even pick it up, if they were particularly sensitive to that sort of thing.
The specialist that broke this down to Derry has furthermore told him that it was more than likely that the cat ears were not just a TF prank, that they couldn’t be reversed by anyone beyond the one who put those there in the first place-
And also, that the ears were likely the side effect of someone putting him under a deep trance, and messing with his psyche.
When the trained magician/doctor asked him if there was any other time where he could barely register how he got to bed, or what happened beforehand, beyond vague dreamlike events. Derry struggled to even count all the times that it had happened. He stewed over this info with a looming sense of dread, anticipation and… eagerness???
The doctors said they were able to put a stop to the Willpower Drain, but they could not reverse what had been lost. Furthermore, there was nothing they could do about that powerful signal, emitting from him, essentially signaling a strong “ I----a m----r e a d y----t o----b e----c l a i m e d. ” message to anyone who can catch it.
On the bright side, it seemed that the cat ears were able to amplify Derry’s senses, which should help in alerting him to any would-be rouge hypnotists and brainwashers.
Of course, however, this also comes with the trade off that if he ends up hearing what they want him to hear, he’s going to hear it a lot more intensely.
They told him to be careful, and he told them that he would…
But now, he can’t stop thinking about what happened that fateful night, those strange dreams, and looking deep inside himself to wonder what has changed since then.
Who all got a hold of him these past few months? What did they do with him? How did he never catch this? How did he always wake up back at home after the dreams where he could have sworn he was somewhere else? Is there just one person manipulating his thoughts or feelings, or many? Do they live in town or is it happening online?
How many people did, and can see him and that curse beckoning for his submission?
How much longer until someone makes sure he no longer has a will of his own at all?
Will the master he initially summoned that Halloween ever come to take him?
...D-does he want someone to claim him?
Derry can not deny the last one without doubt, and that particular aspect tends to send him down panic-lane.
Another Halloween comes by, and Derry looks back on himself the past year.
From the outsiders perspective, it doesn’t look like he’s changed a whole lot. Beyond the new cat ears, and that his clothes tend to involve warmer colors as opposed to dull or cooler colors. And that he seems to have gotten a little bit more wary, and anxious, and awkward.
Internally, Derry had been trying to convince himself that nothing much had changed either.
The fact that he wears warmer colors, undies and socks with cute patterns and words, makes sure that his winter and rain boots are nice, tidy and shiny, and admittedly more easily flustered in social situations, and just a few extra private kinks, is all just the result of him growing, awakening, learning and changing like most people do. Right?
...Though in regards to his interest in getting a choker, and matching wrist/ankle bands, he’s still on the fence about whether that's really *Him*, doing the thinking… or obsessing about getting the courage to try to wear them in public, and staring at the local store web-page wonder which one he needs to buy and arguing to himself about how badly he might REALLY need it.
Derry closed the store page in frustration, forgetting to take the items off his wishlist again.
He lingered and thought and thought about what happened last year, and wondered if the entity he was supposed to submit to would appear this year, and then there wouldn’t be anything else to worry about?
Eventually he went to bed. If nothing happened tonight, the beginning of November and the New Year would probably be uneventful. He’s learned how to live with this. Everything will be just fine.
