Well, I'm a little late for International Self Portrait Day (Nov 1st), but thanks to helpful reminders from friends, I had to be sure to do this exercise again this year. After having wrapped up Inktober it also felt appropriate to cap that off by doing the self portrait in ink, although I wanted to add the purple background color digitally to sort of tie it back to the portrait from last year.
I like to use this exercise to reflect on things that have occurred over the past year and try to put a bit of those feelings into the drawing. 2019 has been a weird, exhausting year for me. My personal life has been through a whirlwind of changes and challenges, and honestly the main thing that helped keep me grounded was drawing. I hope to be able to keep making art because I don't want to know where I'd be without it.
Anyhow, enjoy!
