Twilla Fritz! In charge of diplomatic relations. I was watching TNG and saw this dress version of the uniform I really liked, and I've always thought it'd be really fun if the show had more... variation in their alien races. I don't actually know a ton about the universe, so any history/backstory/reasoning behind the species in that universe will go over my head, but knock yourself out!
As an aside, I'm still really catching up on life these past couple of months. I've got a backlogs of notes I still need to get to, and I'm not really sure when I'll get to them, but I'll get to them eventually. Just mentally treading water right now. I gotta get some projects off my plate before tackling every day life again. Sorry about it taking me so long.

The animated series that followed the Original Star Trek had more varied races since there were, of course, less budgetary restrictions.
They even tied into the “Known Space” series stuff by Larry Niven and had the Kzinti in a couple episodes.
I thought the Next Generation really missed out by not having some of that as well if they could have.

A lovely outfit on her!
From what I remember for Startrek lore (and from doing some quick, lazy wiki-walking), the first sentient race in the galaxy did a bunch of exploring eons ago, but didn't find any other sapient races, so they did some DNA seeding/manipulation shenanigans on a bunch of planets so eventually intelligent life like them would arise there. Hence, all of the aliens look like humans because we ALL look like the first race.

Hopefully this link oughta work to go to the right section. (FA choked on the parens, and ellipsised the middle so you can't just copy-paste.)
gah the cute and the fluff it's too much i just want to give here a big hug, i gotta say she would not be out of place in the Star Trek: titan books (in the cannon the titan is the most multi-cultural ship in starfleet who's crew include a doctor who is best described as an alien velociraptor (Jurassic park style) who is chill af and wonders why his crew mates get nervous around him, an empathic two two trunked elephant, another velociraptor like crew member (the feathered variety) who complains that the crew keep calling her cute despite her race being the apex predators of her world and at the same time wishes she could ride around the ship on a little scooter due to he size, among many others
