bastianmage of bastianmage.com https://bastianmage.com/ in the past I got my start by hand coloring his images (with his permission) now that I have R-H-D to work with, I wanted to bring this great image to life in a way I never could, so please enjoy :D
And to Sebastian out there, Thank you for being an amazing wealth of inspiration, your images always have such a unique charm and elements have always driven me to do something like them but in my own styling, I've always appreciated Seb for not being overly protective over his images and allowing fans to creatively homage his work and even evolve it in their own ways, for that, you'll always have my deepest respect :)
The Teen Titans find themselves chasing after the villain Overload as he jumps from electric grid to electric grid, but just as Cyborg is just within range to fire the insulated net, Overload splits himself up and goes in 5 different directions. Robin being the quick on his feet leader that he is, tells his friends to spread out and each follow one and try to corner it and call in for back up when they do, and with that Raven flys off to chase after the one she has in her sights as it speeds off into the abandoned part of Jump City and into a large concrete building.
Once inside Raven notices the doorway is a descending staircase that goes down 3 stories underground, the inside is abandoned and pitch dark, but free of any signs of vagrancy anyone else having been here in decades. Eventually Raven loses sight of the villain and stops to get her baring as something feels ominous about this place, suddenly the lights jolt to life, the building rumbles and it suddenly goes from cold to hot inside.
An alarm starts ringing as a monitor overhead turns on and starts flashing warnings. Raven wasn't aware of this yet, but she'd entered an abandoned nuclear generator that was abandoned after the rich scientist who had it built in secret was forced to condemn it and chased out of town, now Overload's electric body has jump-started the dilapidated reactor and caused it start crumbling onto its self and causing an immediate reactor overload which needs to be vented, less it go critical and explode, which is unfortunate for Raven as the room shes standing in suddenly gets even hotter as radioactive rods rise out of the floor to vent the system, bringing Raven to her knee's and dooming her to a fate of radiation poisoning......at least, it would have.
The scientist who built this place was a man of pure genius but didn't think about right and wrong when implementing his idea's as Raven's life is saved when the buildings safety system kicks in and releases what it calls "Hazmat suit nanites" tech that was way ahead of their time as they enter Raven's body and quickly changes her on a molecular level, from a biological human person into a being of solid lead shielded rubber with her insides changes to not only survive the radiation but thrive off it. Raven's life was spared, but her mind wasn't hers for very long as she struggles to comprehend what was happening to her until the change was complete and her entire way of thinking had changed.
Raven still had her thoughts and memories from her old life, but her personality and motivations had changed, now she had a driving urge to find and contain any and all Radioactive material around her as she immediately got to work and started walking all around the facility, her solid rubber boot feet squeaking with each step as she grabbed a hold of everything that had soaked up radiation with her thick rubber glove hands and absorbed it into her own body, nullifying it and powering her own life force.
Days went by, Overload had long since left but Raven stayed behind and tirelessly roamed the building removing all traces of radiation within it and absorbing it into herself like a rubber sponge, by the time the building was completely decontaminated, Raven was now powered enough to stay active for several hundred years, she could use her drastically increased life span to learn magics beyond her comprehension or many other amazing things......but her old life didn't matter to her anymore, Raven's thoughts only concerned with containing and and all traces of Radiation; and since it was now all gone, she simply stood there waiting to be of use like her mind was on pause. The transformation destroyed her communicator in the process and since they all split up, The Titans were never able to find their friend for the rest of their lives as Hazmat Raven waited underground for the next time she would be needed as the power in the building finally gave out and she stood there glowing in the dark.
Two Hundred years later, Raven is suddenly jostled into action when a breeze of wind comes down the stairs laced heavily with radiation, Hazmat Raven walks up the stairs, slowly absorbing it as she gradually ascends up the flight until finally she reaches the surface and is greeted with the sight of a nuclear wasteland. In the future, Nuclear power reigned supreme but old unwanted cities became the sight of dumping grounds for such dangerous material as it would take centuries for it all to reach half life, but now Raven has emerged into a land where every square inch of everything is radioactive and she is just absorbing it all and is in heaven while doing so.
To this Day, Hazmat Raven continues to wonder the wasteland absorbing its radiation, it'll take her a long time to get all of it, but in the mean time, all the excess energy she's converting is going into restoring her old personality, shes starting to slowly think for herself again and once this land is once more free of the deadly poison, she'll be back to being the moody sorceress she use to be, but with centuries added to her lifespan and radioactively enhanced power, she has plans of making this wasteland into a paradise for herself and anyone else who would like to embrace the hazmat life like herself. The end.
