A lil announcement. Patreon is now the first place where I open commissions each month, and then, if there're some spare slots left, I'll open commissions here and on Twitter.
So, if you wanna commission me RN - here's your chance!

The thing about that is that restaurants are usually quite empty, there's almost always a spare table.
But with an individual artist, spaces run out super fast.
It's not that people are being expected to pledge to patreon just to get commissions, the ones that do choose to pledge just get first dibs, which is totally fair.
People who don't pledge still get a chance to commission, they're just a lower priority, which seems fair to me since patreons are actively and regularly supporting the artist.
Plus, artists are individual people who struggle enough to make income so I don't consider this questionable, but that part is definitely just my own opinion.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, except for the whole first dibs thing.
Artists got where they are because of the support and spreading of the fans of their art. Taking away the possibility from those people who save up enough money to actually get a commission and keep supporting the artist they love, by putting even that behind a paywall? Nah. Sorry, that's not right.
Like I said, if peeps are okay with it, that's fine. But that's a sacrifice of integrity in my book. Wouldn't be the first time people did that for their livelihood, definitely won't be the last.

C'mon, even in restaurant if you visit one place pretty often - you are already investing financially into this place and restaurant sees you as a VIP-person and can provide you discounts and other nice things.
If you wanna take a look at the menu in restaurant - here it is. It's free.

If you put it like that, it just as well means they're a sellout.
Not something I personally agree with, but it's congruous to your statement.
Additionally, I'm merely stating my dissatisfaction with the practice. Am I not allowed to voice my opinion in a polite manner without being execrated for it?

And they're just trying to make a living. Which, gasp, they sell their skills for.
I guess anyone who sells their talents is a sellout then?
When it's a bad take on an artist's earning potential, yep, you're gonna get shit. Especially when it's a take that's revisited about once a week.

I haven't seen this way before, so I guess that's on me. Didn't mean to create this much of a fuss, my apologies for that.
There can be a perfectly fine distinction between turning your back on your fans and supporters and making proper money.
Having said that, I've been nothing but amicable, it'd be nice if the same courtesy could be returned.

I don't much care about hurt feelings when people come to make an artist feel bad for their decisions surrounding their livelihood, no.
It's a tired, old take that's been discussed to death. If you had gone to a family-owned shop with this kind of argument you likely would have been told to leave. Lol.
