So now here we go with a sad moment for these two. But not to worry, it won't be forever.

Love on Island
Goodbyes
That test would happen a few weeks after that meet. And during that time Jack found that Alexis seemed to be messing and flirting with him. These moments happened at school or on the occasional crafting trip he did and she tagged along. It drove the folfsky crazy as he couldn’t tell if the sea otter was serious or not. The male loved it but couldn’t tell if it was because she had real feelings for him. The guy couldn’t find it in himself and ask the female why she did the things she did. They were little games from brushing her thick rudder tail against his, wearing shorty short shorts around him, even bending over at times to pick things up. Alexis would even reach out and touch his shoulder on occasion. Sometimes it was to reassure him, and others what seemed to be for fun. The folfsky could remember the last time she had done it in those shorts with a yellow flower in her hair and purple tank top and how he loved it like always. But Jack wished it could be more with what they had. However, something would then come up that would make it not possible at the moment. “Is this really needed for her?” her mother asked her husband one night.
They were talking in their room before going to sleep. “She is at that age where those rites of passage are to happen for young females,” the male otter said. “I think considering the blood she carries that Alexis could benefit from it. Her brother went through those as well.”
“Yes but that means leaving here for months. With our son it wasn’t as big of a problem because the school system wasn’t in place. But Alexis will be leaving behind her swim team and friends. Most of all Jack as well. I know it’s not a permanate thing but…”
“I know my dear,” Alexis’s father replied. “I know that one of the things is that she’ll be against the idea. But like with her brother, I’ll give her the choice. If she’s for it, then that is good. But if not I understand. Let’s bring it up with her tomorrow, okay?”
The female otter let out a happy churr and snuggled against him. “Now that’s why I love you babe,” she cooed. “You always have our children’s interest in mind.”
“Of course. Why do you think I’ll allow her to date Jack?” The female giggled and kissed him.
The next day they did bring it up with Alexis. These rites were what the native people that the older adults belonged to did at their native islands as ones that were becoming an adult. Their daughter could remember her brother leaving this island to take them with one of her parents heading there and then both of them switching. She had even gone to both of the islands to see her brother perform at them. It had been a wonderful trip and Alexis not only saw her grandparents, but the extended family as well. But this time the whole family would be going to these islands. “I do remember my brother doing them,” Alexis said. “I’ve always wondered what it’d be like though.”
“Well I think that like with your brother these would benefit you,” her father commented. “However, you’ll be leaving behind much more than him for a number of months. Most likely the rest of this school year and you wouldn’t be back until the tenth grade. But at the same time I’ll leave the choice of whether you want to do this or not up to you my little sea flower.”
“Really daddy? You mean it?” He nodded and Alexis hugged him. He chuckled and hugged her back with warmth and love. “Well how much time do I have to think about it?”
“A bit but don’t take too long.”
So Alexis did and despite how she would be leaving things behind, something in her wanted to go through with this. Not only did she feel would help her grow, perhaps she could pick something up to help her get with Jack. And that was why after telling her parents she’d go for it, the folfsky was the very first one that she told. “Jack, can I talk to you?” she asked after the decision had been made. “It’s important.”
“Uh, okay,” he replied.
The two walked down one of the many beaches here on the island. Here Alexis told the male her decision. This made Jack stop and look to her. It was a funny one of hurt, loss, but also trying to be happy. “I’m sorry but… something in me wants to do this,” she whispered, seeing this.
“Have… have you told anyone else about this?”
“Not yet, you were the first out of everyone.” Jack felt touched and honored that Alexis made him the number one person to tell before anyone else.
“Must you leave?” he asked with a sad frown. “I know you’ll be back but…”
“I’m sorry but… I feel I must…” Alexis whispered. She was feeling sad to but knew this had to be done. “I learned from my mom and daddy I’ll be gone for about the rest of this school year. Then I’ll be back.”
“So many months…” She reached out and touched his arm again making him look to her with a little blush.
“I know it’ll be hard,” the sea otter said softly. “But I’ll still be with you in a sense. After all…” Here she touched the crystal necklace that had been made for her years ago when they were kids after that trip. Even now it was still holding up much like the choker Nicholas had made his wife Rio even though she no longer wore it at her age. “This here always reminds me of you…”
Jack didn’t say anything but the two teens had a loving hug. Alexis would then go on to explain to their other friends while her parents talked to those in charge and the teachers why the sea otter would be out of the rest of the school year. They were fine with it and made sure she wouldn’t lose so many months with learning. The day then came for her to leave on this long trip and it found the sea otter saying goodbye to Jack. Even now he still couldn’t say how he felt about her. Perhaps it was for the best until her return. “I still wish you were staying,” he whispered. “I don’t know if I can wait for you to come back…”
“It will be hard,” she said softly. “I know; it is for me to. But I’ll have you to think of to get me through…” That gave the male hope. Perhaps Alexis did feel the same way for him as he did with her.
The two teens hugged again. “I hope you stay safe and you come back…” Jack stated softly.
“I promise I will…” Alexis replied. “And don’t forget about me. Which is why I’ll give you this to remember me by…” She leaned up since Jack was a bit taller, planting a sweet, loving kiss on his cheek. Both of them blushed badly and they could see that on the other when she pulled back. Jack was in shock as this wasn’t like when they had been kids with it being childlike love. Now she was able to have real feelings of attraction and love like with the male. Could this really meant she felt the same way?
“Take care of yourself Jack…” the sea otter said softly with a smile. She came out of his arm, walking ahead to where the rest of her family were waiting, but looked back at him one last time. The folfsky just stood there, so many confusing emotions going through his body at once. But he was able to wave goodbye and she did so back in return. Jack watched her and the rest of the family hit a small boat that would take them to the airport. When the vehicle was out of sight, the male slowly walked back to his home, touching the spot that had gotten her lips. Jack could still feel them. His eyes closed, remembering that and how she felt in his arms. Already he missed that and the guy let out a long sigh. This was going to be a long amount of months with waiting for her return. But the folfsky would make it. Somehow, someway.
