With more weight to that tail, or feet, you could always have your captives in an "Aladdin/Cabin By The Lake/Funny Games" moment where they are tossed into a sea/lake to drown ... before escaping or being rescued. Or having them struggle as their captors dig their graves/prep the loading van/firing squad ... only to be ruined by getting stuck in the hole they were digging/flat tire or no gas for the loading van/out of bullets ... you know, GOOFY DOOM! XD
If you want to go for "goofy doom slowly inching on them" you can show them struggling behind a curtain behind a make-shift auction stage where your rebels are being sold in pageantry style. Then of course there's always the "awaiting for interrogation" situations. (I know you said you're not a fan of it but if you want "goofy doom" there's always interrogation via tickle torture ... that will get them struggling: whether it's the feather slowing approaching them or the fear of being humiliated in front of your fellow captives at the mere thought of being broken with such a childish torture.. XD)
Regardless, Great Work As Always! Keep It Up! :)

Wow, this came out really well and I'm glad you got around to finishing it! :D
The body and especially head proportions are great, I really like the pointy, rat-like nose. The detail and texture throughout are excellent too and I think they're a step up from your previous work. The pants texture, the small details in his futuristic jacket and especially the lovely coarse looking fur totally make the picture.
The light beam on dark background I'm sure was the right answer here. You get to keep the benefit of the detailed, geometric background of the station without the picture looking too cluttered. I'm glad the brushes on CSP were helpful too, that program is a lot of fun to work in.
Fantastic work and great to see this done. That "rock" is actually a lump of element 500 and probably weighs 80kgs :P
