Bastien, created in 1998, marks the end of a ten-year lapse in new character creation on my part. Prompted by my discovery of furry fandom (yes, most of my characters pre-date my awareness of furry) and first time attending Anthrocon the following year, Bastien was born of speculation that maybe it`s a good thing to draw something other than cats. Created as a meerkat, Bastien was partly inspired by the Timon and Pumbaa cartoons, although none of Disney`s design formulae was employed.

Bastien is physically the shortest of the male characters, being closest in stature to Cynthia, who has an on-again, off-again attatchment to him, mostly being partners-in-crime on the latest act of sabotage played on the others. Bastien counts videogames (mostly retrogaming) and BMX biking as his pursuits, although the latter consists mainly of owning and riding such a bike--he doesn`t actually compete.

This pic was done as a vector image in Deneba Canvas, and took about 350 minutes from importing the initial sketch to exporting the completed bitmap and thumbnails. Considering the additional complexity introduced by his fur colorscheme, it went surprisingly quickly.
