Here's the second picture in a brand-new line-up of fanart for all of you wonderful people here on FA! It's a work in progress, so expect to see it inked & colored at some time in the near future! ^_^ (Man, it's been a while since I've done some GMD fanart...but I'm quite glad that I'm getting back into the habit. :D ) This piece features a couple of the members of my GMD Fanfic Cast, Alex DeMaus & Dimitri "Dim" Botkin.
~~~~~
As the leader of an infamous gang of juvenile delinquents, young Alex DeMaus not only wields mighty power over his 'droogs', but has also come to be known as a terrifying lord of the streets of Mouse London. This ruthless punk prowls the darkest alleys, highways, & by-ways of the city like a panther on the hunt for his latest victim; on the surface, he may appear cool & indifferent...but, in reality, he's quietly, furtively formulating a plan about what he should do with you when he finds you all alone...& then, just when you least expect it, he'll pounce upon you, & go straight for the kill! Whether he takes your life, your valuables, or even your virginity, Alex will have no qualms about getting away with whatever he manages to get his greedy paws on, & when he & his droogs have escaped with their loot, he'll always demand that he receive the largest portion of it. "After all," he explains to his droogs whenever they question why he should get more than they, "I am your fair & verily-wise leader, & as such, methinks I deserve some proper tribute for my leadership over all you malenky sheep in my like care."
Cold, callous, & utterly rotten to the core, Alex DeMaus has no desire to show any sympathy or empathy for other rodents, & he frowns upon those who would dare "show weakness" by putting warmth, love, & kindness in their hearts. This hard-hearted scoundrel views any & all positive virtues or characteristics as habits to be overcome, as meddling traits to be abandoned & ignored, in favor of indulging in the "pleasures" of vice & wickedness. He would sooner kill a furson & leave his corpse to rot in the gutter, than think (even for just one moment) about possibly sparing his life. It is this merciless, malevolent attitude that makes Alex DeMaus such a dangerous rogue (& one of the Baker Street Family's most-reviled enemies).
Vicious & malicious though he may be, however, Alex DeMaus is a cad who prides himself on his sense of class, refined mannerisms, & cultured tastes; his top & tip of his cane are crafted from pure gold, & the ribbon around his prized bowler hat is only made of the finest red silk. When he's relaxing in his room after a long day of committing crimes, he'll be perfectly content to listen to the music of Ludwig Van Mausthoven (his favorite composer), or read a good book or two, as he helps himself to some fine cheese & a glass of wine (or home-made milkplus). His speech is a perfect combination of 'Nadsat' slang & the Queen's English, & whenever he talks to another furson, he's not afraid to employ the use of his extensive vocabulary. But don't let these things fool you, for Alex's elegance & charm (not to mention his stunning good looks) only help to disguise the monster lurking underneath the facade...
Unlike the other three Mouse Droogs, Dimitri Botkin (better known as "Dim") was not born on English soil; he immigrated to Mouse London from Russia at an early age, as he & his parents fled to the city to escape persecution by 'Catsack' officials. Not too long after arriving at his new home, Dim befriended the rodents who would become his long-time droogs--Alex DeMaus, Georgie Rutherford, & Pete Tarn. Over the course of time, however, what started out as a deep (but innocent) friendship between the four mouselings became warped into something more sinister...
As they grew older, Alex & his droogs found themselves mysteriously beckoned by the lure of temptation, & in their spare time, they would often be hanging around negative influences (e.g., rebellious older youths like Chutzpah The Squirrel); this was only the beginning of what would be the Mouse Droogs' descent into corruption. When the boys entered their pre-teenage years, they were not able to stay away from those vices that allured them so, & they began cutting school, causing all sorts of 'mousechief', & dabbling in criminal acts; eventually, they moved on from measly 'mousedemeanors' to full-on felonies. Indulging in those wicked activities only helped to harden the hearts of Alex DeMaus, Georgie, & Dim (Pete, thankfully, wasn't quite as willing to turn his back on his virtues), & thanks to those tragic twists & turns of fate that afflicted their lives, those once-innocent mouselings have grown up into ruthless teenage punks.
Now, the Mouse Droogs' gang is comprised of rodents who take on the traits of certain fursonality "archetypes". Alex DeMaus is the smart, cunning leader; Georgie is his equally-smart (but, arguably, far more cunning) second-in-command; Pete is the droog who pretends to be bad, but secretly wishes to live as the law-abiding citizen he knows he really is; Dim, of course, is the big, fat buffoon--the idiot of the group. Having been held back in school for several years (on account of making poor marks, not paying attention, & not completing his assignments, among other things), Dim came to earn his nickname when his parents, teachers, & schoolmates started using it in reference to him; gradually, they were calling Dim by that name alone, & stopped using his real name, altogether. Although the moniker was meant to be an insult, it sort of "stuck" with Dim throughout his life, &--to be perfectly frank--it has grown to be a very apt name.
Whenever Alex DeMaus turns to his droogs for advice or suggestions, Dim is usually the last one he will talk to (if he chooses to talk to him at all), & for good reason--Georgie & Pete would make far better candidates for helping Alex out with a problem, whereas Dim wouldn't have a snowball's chance in Hades of saying or doing anything useful. In fact, Dim is nearly-always prone (except on those rare occasions) to doing the exact opposite of anything that Georgie or Pete--much less Alex--would do; he's (in)famous for uttering stupid or meaningless comments, laughing at just about anything or anyone (even at times when it wouldn't be considered "appropriate"), mucking up Alex's villainous schemes, fumbling or bumbling his way through things, & generally acting like the complete imbecile he is.
In addition to his idiocy, cluelessness, & clumsiness, Dim is equally disliked for his laziness. Whenever Alex orders him to join the Mouse Droogs on their devilish 'mousecapades', Dim would much rather stay home, pig out on junk food, & do something that he finds far more interesting (like playing with toys, or watching TV)...but when he is dragged outside anyway, Dim will be quick to whine & complain like a young mouseling--not that this changes the fact that he's going to help his droogs out, lest he be given a harsh beating on the knees from Alex's cane! Eventually, though, Dim stops putting up a fuss, & decides to assist his fellow droogs in their evil endeavors; as soon as Alex lets everyone off, however, Dim will go right back to lazing around & doing whatever he wants to do.
In spite of his numerous shortcomings, however, Dim has proven himself to be a fierce fighter, & although he may not be the smartest or most-active member of Alex's gang, he is certainly the strongest; just one crack of the chain-whip that he carries around with him, could easily gouge out a furson's eyes! It is Dim's fighting abilities, & his fierceness as a warrior, that give him some value as a member of Alex DeMaus' "mean team"--which is a very good thing for Dim, considering that everything else about him brings nothing but scorn & disdain from his droogs...Ah, well. Such is the life of a moronic minion.
