Lilac slowly awoke to the feeling of the autumn sun on her face. Still in a haze, she lifted herself up onto her arms to get a better view of her produce. The Plant-Kangaroo hybrid was in her planted form, her legs and feet were currently roots, fixing her firmly in place, her stiff body remaining fixed in whatever position she moved herself to. She had to do this several times a year to replenish her body, but this was no ordinary planting.
Sprouting from her body and tail was a web of pumpkin vines. From them she was growing an entire patch of enormous pumpkins. Not for carving, no. These pumpkins were stuffed with sugar and fine-grained pumpkin flesh. Perfect for pies. Lilac beamed with pride as she reached out and ran her hand across the skin of one of the few within her reach. All of her practice was finally paying off.
When she wasn't rooted to the ground, Lilac was a nurse in the children's ward of the local hospital. Her unique plant and animal physiology may be difficult to keep healthy, but it is also perfect for hospital work. Her fur and hair were actually fine blades of grass and flower petals and was unable to transmit most mites, fleas, bacteria, or viruses. Her purple hair also gave off a pleasant Lilac scent that the children loved.
During her free time, she would often help out with various fundraisers. One such event was a pumpkin pie bake sale. In prior years, Lilac had overheard another volunteer commenting about how it would be great if they could use the larger carving pumpkins for pie rather than the smaller pie pumpkins. The comment wasn't directed at her, but it planted a seed in her mind that soon would bear fruit. She soon began sampling different kinds of pumpkins and growing small examples off her body. She sent the results off to the various researchers she kept in touch with.
Biologists and geneticists had spent years trying to determine how Lilac was able to do such things with her body. With just a sample and some practice, she could grow pretty much any sort of plant from her body. She had produce fruit before and it wasn't long before she was told that her latest creation was completely safe to consume. With that settled, Lilac happily made her offer to the charity organizers. Having known and worked with Lilac for years, they eagerly accepted. Her pumpkins would save large amounts of both money and work.
Laying back down on her chest, she leaned her head against her hand and arm. Playfully, she grabbed at the falling leaves with the other as they drifted by in the breeze. Lilac enjoyed her planting sessions and the unique perspective on life it gave, but she was also glad that this one was coming to an end. Her friends stopped out almost every day to check on her and tend to her patch, but she didn't blame them for not trying to strike up conversation with her. As a plant, time passed so fast for her that she had trouble understanding what people said. Her slowed metabolism also removed her ability to speak. Written notes were her only way to communicate. Given how busy she was as a nurse, this time alone was a welcome break.
Reaching down to her chest, Lilac gently rubbed her plump and growing breasts. Tomorrow was the big day. Her friends would be out to harvest the pumpkins and begin making pies with them. She would begin changing herself back to her anthro form, up and walking about in a matter of days. With the pumpkins fully grown, it was time to stockpile the energy she would need to change herself back. Unable to eat, she needed to fill herself with all the food she would need for the transformation. She wiggled in pleasure as she felt the sun and earth provide her with everything she needed, her grassy fur feasted on sunlight and wrestled carbon dioxide from the air. Her deep roots quenched her thirst and hunger for nutrients. It wouldn't be long until she was ready.
Content with how things were going, Lilac went back to playing with the falling leaves. Soaking up the sun and passing the time, she let herself get lost in the sights and sounds around her before gently drifting back to sleep. Her body stayed propped up where she had left it; a living statue of beauty and love. The wind continued blowing lazily through her hair, leaves dancing between her still outstretched fingers.
