Season 2 Coby Carson
If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I'm a fan of WWE (unfortunate in some cases) and I always adored the concept of the SHIELD and how their story was told in WWE from 2013-2015. https://youtu.be/96-ozhe6rzQ?t=129
Everything from their outfits to the way they were utilized as characters was great, (Course, after Seth Rollin's betrayal, WWE didn't know how to properly utilize them as singles competitors- but that's another long story)
It'd been about a year and a few months since the character started and boy did he get himself into a heap of trouble and controversy with other players via Twitter. It'd been a long time since I did any Coby artwork so I thought it was time to reinvent the character a bit.
I was pushing towards Coby becoming a villainous type character (and working towards the Luciano storyline http://www.furaffinity.net/view/33601233/ ) who antagonized the other players by making them doubt themselves, only to get his come uppance via gameplay or storylines.
Using what I established in his backstory, I had it so the cheetah heart he received as a kid essentailly made him a hybrid of a sort (hybrids are looked down upon in the FBA UFFL-verse), which explained his great athleticism. It wasn't until his young adulthood that those features started to appear and, though he was deeply insecure about them at first, Luciano convinced him to embrace who he is and not hide.
Much like WWE and the characters of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns, my biggest problem at the time was not understanding what I had and why it worked. I was very experimental with Coby and made a lot of mistakes- I toyed with his age rating (going from tame to adult), mistook edginess and dark stories as a crutch for interesting writing, and tried to make him a sympathetic character.
I SHOULD of had the character embrace his role as the antagonist but kept it fun, tame, and light-hearted, not outwardly malicious and adult. Coby didn't work as a sympathetic character due to the fact that it was his own repeated behavior that dug him his own hole in the first place- no one gives a damn if something externally bad happens to a character who was being a jerk, that's karma.
But it was definitely a learning process I had to go through to understand my mistakes to better improve the character.

Agreed, I told
Masterbucks months ago the character worked so much better as a diva getting their comeuppance than an actual villainous bully. He really kind of became oppressive as time went on, far from how he started as a rookie.
