A more personal picture today.
Today is Remembrance Day in the UK, something I always observe, including the two minute silence at eleven O’clock. In addition to remembering the millions killed, wounded (both physically and mentally) and bereaved in conflict around the world, I take a moment to think of my Great Grandfather. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Navy during WW2 and on June 1st 1941 his ship H.M.S. Calcutta (D82) was bombed off the coast of Egypt and sunk. He survived but 107 of his crewmates weren’t as fortunate, he lived until 1984 with a slight shake in his hands, and naturally he never talked about it.
So Sally is dressed in the Dress Uniform of the Royal Navy and the date on the gravestone as a nod to this section of my personal family history.
