No Combat Today Dear by Rebecca (Gift for Me 2019)
A toon picture done as a gift for me by
NX-42 of my gunslinger Milo with his partner Wayd.
So the Pathfinder campaign featuring Milo finally ended back around July or August. The party managed to stop the apocalypse by shooting the moon in the eye with a horrible Rovagug-powered death beam, tearing the jaw off of a gigantic Void Dragon, and getting a bunch of other dragons that appeared suddenly to help spread the word of hope across the world (long story), and the day was saved. Everyone wrote out their epilogues for their characters, some more definitive and all-encompassing than others, a lot of them stretching all the way to their deaths and beyond, and thus Milo got his epilogue, too.
Milo, Wayd, and half the party (some weren't comfortable going, what with the war and all having only just ended) all traveled to Katzch a few months after the final battle. The group met Wayd's family, and they were fairly openly welcoming of them (especially Milo, whose family name al-Khadim they recognized and cause Wayd apparently had had no romantic inclinations up til then). They then went and stayed at Milo's childhood home, where Milo, in privacy, finally contacted his dead twin brother Asad after 5 long years using a Grave Candle he'd been given. They had a long talk (Milo even slipping back into his old Katzchian accent) with a lot of apologies and tears, until finally, because Milo couldn't bring himself to ask for his brother's permission to be revived, Asad just asked to be resurrected himself, because nothing would've made Asad happier than seeing Milo happy at his return. Milo happily agreed, and upon the party's return, he announced that one, he'd be selling a lot of his estate (not the house) to fund the resurrection, and two, he'd begin to use his old name, Haidar al-Khadim, as his real official name again (although others were still free to use Milo to refer to him).
Eventually Milo did resurrect his brother, and they all settled down in Malvia, near an inn that two other party members, Sifra and Zane, had managed to build for themselves, and as more people moved into that area, it eventually became its own town named Evenfall. Milo and Wayd got a house together there, with Wayd helping out at the inn's stables (her family had a long history of being cavalry and working with horses) and Milo doing random oddjobs and security/guard stuff. They eventually get married, and Asad, living right next door, eventually found his own lover as well. Both couples had kids, Milo and Wayd having a boy named Faris and a girl named Sakina, and Asad having a boy named Nasim.
And that's more or less where this picture would take place. Milo and Wayd, happily married and settled down, finally able to relax and lead a slow, normal, safe life together with their new family, away from all the horrible tragedy they had suffered early in their life. Eventually, Milo and Asad will die of old age within hours of each other and finally be able to travel to the afterlife together, two halves of the same soul, but for now, Milo has a whole life ahead of him with his wife, brother, and friends.
And that's more or less the end of the tale of Haidar al-Khadim, aka Milo Dukeland, my favorite character I have ever made. It's certainly not at all the ending I expected for him when I created him over 4 years ago, and not even the one I expected throughout the vast majority of the campaign, but my poor grumpy tragic cat boy getting a happy ending still brings tears to my eyes.
Not that this is the last time you'll ever see Milo in a picture by any means, or even the last time I'll use or play Milo for something in the future, cause I love this character way too much not to, but for now, he gets to finally be happy in retirement.
(Oh and of course I absolutely love this picture Rebecca did, I was really desperate to have one "last" picture of Milo and Wayd being sweet together before the campaign ended. Unfortunately she was too swamped with work and other stuff in her life to get to it until last month, but regardless I'm really appreciative she did this for me. As if you couldn't tell, Milo is extremely important to me, and having this picture of his happy life after the end really means the world to me.)
