Thanks! I had a sort of fuzzy backstory bouncing around in my head, which the name of the piece ties into in an abstract sort of way. Iapetus (aside from being a Greek titan and a moon of Saturn) was once an ocean on the earth that was shifted away long ago by the movement of the continents. I was kicking around the idea of the congregations of the last humans left on a scorched earth, a city oasis, if you will. It sounded better in my head. :B
And for time spent I'd say...4 hours? Probably closer to 5 or so.

Well, "convoluted" in that I came by this as a result of peeking at your gallery via the "insecure clean artists" thread, combined with existing curiosity over something I read about the section of New York City I live in, which is just a couple of blocks from the remnant of an ancient subduction zone, Cameron's Line, which is believed to be the tectonic boundary that the Iapetus closed up on.
I hadn't read the comments closely enough to spot the first mention (which is linf-of out of the ordinary for me), since I kinda intended to leave a quick tidbit of trivia and get back to reading the rest of the forum thread.
