History: The navigator and AWACS specialist of Shadow Fox, Selene is a lupine android originating from a top secret organisation in the Cornerian government. She first met the Shadow Fox team when they were working with several other freelance groups on a mission for the Cornerian military. After proving herself in combat, both with weapons and with electronics and intelligence, she was offered a position on the Shadow Fox team as the pilot of the team's escort carrier, mechanic, and Combat Information Center tech. She's not technically a member of the team in the same sense as the others, but is still a valuable part of Shadow Fox none the less. Although an A.I. and somewhat limited on knowledge of certain things, over time she has shown a capacity to learn and grow mentally, not unlike an organic being.
Since joining forces with Shadow Fox, Selene allowed herself to be upgraded with several features to enable her to better run the systems of the Shadow Dragun, the spacecraft carrier that serves as Shadow Fox's mobile base of operations. One of the key upgrades was the installation of several computer jacks. Working along similar principles as Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports, these jacks allow her to “plug in” to the various computers and other components of the Shadow Dragun and interact with its systems directly. Everything from piloting and navigation to weapons systems and damage control can be controlled and accessed.
These jacks, both those built into Selene's body and those built into the ship have been custom designed and shaped deliberately to not match those of standard ports in common military or civilian use. The reason behind this is brutally simple...security purposes. Most hackers and other computer slicers require a physical connection to the computers and other systems they intend to access, and with the connection ports not matching anything standard, there is next to nothing the slicers can do to connect to either Selene herself or the Shadow Dragun's systems.
To prevent remote slicing using wireless connections, the architecture of Selene's A.I. has been modified to remove wireless interaction capability. While this does reduce a number of features, the need for a manual connection removes the ability for slicers to infiltrate her A.I. and prevents them from trying to shut her down, disable her systems, or from using her to access the Shadow Dragun's systems. Anything involving her A.I. needs a direct, physical connection, and with the non-standard connection ports, such a connection is nearly impossible.
Even if a physical connection can be made, Selene's internal defense mechanisms are most formidable. On top of the countermeasures of her A.I.'s architecture, she herself is more than capable of defending herself. Her rifle and pistol marksmanship matches those of any special forces soldier and she's programed with standard military combat tactics for both offense and defense. Though not a front line operative like the 5 primary members of Shadow Fox, she does make use of these abilities to defend and provide security to the Shadow Dragun both in space and while it is docked. She is seldom seen without an L-44 blaster carbine and a half dozen grenades of various types on her person.
In addition to security roles, Selene also fills the role of navigator and master engineer aboard the ship. For these roles she's programmed effectively the same way as an astromech droid, and can store several dozen hyperspace jump coordinates directly in her internal memory and while she does not have the built in tools that most astromechs possess, she can use any set of regular tools just as proficiently and can repair most minor problems in mere moments, and can greatly assist in major repairs that require the assistance of more than one person.
Usually, Selene can be encountered on the bridge of the Shadow Dragun and supervising the operation of its systems, if not directly piloting the ship herself. To enable her to multitask while piloting or navigating, a series of holographic projectors have been built into several areas of the ship, allowing her to appear seemingly “in person” to talk and interact with the other members of the team while she sits at the bridge, connected to the ship's systems. Although she obviously cannot interact physically with the environment this way, she can communicate with the other members and offer her technical advice as well as assist the team members through the Shadow Dragun's computers and other systems. And of course, being a walking supercomputer, she can be in several places at once, her processors allowing her to focus on several tasks all at once with ease. Thus, it is possible to see and speak to her physical form on the bridge, while simultaneously she is assisting Tupolev with engine repairs, and is on the flight deck with Vasili, discussing a mission's specifications, for example.
Physically, Selene appears to be a flesh and blood female wolf of about the same age as the other members of Shadow Fox. Even a close examination will show her to be rather realistic and she can easily pass as an organic being, however talking/interacting with her will show her to be obviously an A.I. entity. One of the most obvious tell tales is the somewhat “spaced out” look that appears on her face from time to time. Though capable of basic facial expressions, she often displays none at all, and when looking over something or talking to a person, she looks as though she's not paying any attention, or could be lost in a daydream, “staring out into space”. She stands around the average height of most females, if a bit taller than normal, and has a slender, medium build. Originally her name was simply Darkon II, being the second of three in the Darkon series of military androids. Komari Gray gave her the name of Selene as the android reminded her of an acquaintance she met on Corneria, and after dropping the numeral II, Selene Darkon became her new name and adding a bit to her “humanity”. Her standard attire is rather basic, consisting of a gray shirt and blue pants, both of which feature a variety of pockets for carrying various parts and components from computer circuitry and memory devices to screws, bolts, and other bits of hardware.
