I've had a strip like this in my mind for a while, but with a recent rash of fanboy backlash against the beast that is rule 34 I've experienced, I figured it would be appropriate to address this. I can't say I'm fond of the sentiment that lingers around that fandom is a man's domain, especially since there's been an explosion of girls in fandom, and it's only going to get bigger. I hate calling out sexism because I don't want to be labeled as one of those progressiver-than-thou, super-defensive LJers that can't take a joke, but it still bugs me.

I think it's great that girls are getting in on the action.
Especially since, you know, it's basically been TOO MANY DICKS ON THE DANCE FLOOR for forever.
Though what ever happened to hetero shipping? The guys want lesbians and the girls want gays... I kinda like it when its a traditional relationship every now and then...

Your point is a really good one. I find it ironic when people comment on how there are no girls on the internet/certain fandom, and when there are, people either lash out at said girls or always think that they are just doing it for attention.
It's kind of sad, really. On a personal note, I want more female friends (I have a lot of interests and I like having a unique group of friends) who like these kinds of things but I find it difficult because I feel like I'm ending up as their friend just because they are a girl, not because I like their personality.

It's a terrible double standard.
To be fair, there are girls who kind of take things to far, but for girls who are kind of in the middle and not near this extreme...well, they get the same kind of treatment. Like, if girls enjoy porn of fictional male characters, they're horny sluts, but if a guy enjoys porn of female characters, that's normal.

From what I've heard, girls have just as much horniness as guys do, they just hide it better (usually) because of how society is. I personally believe that guys and girls are pretty much the same personality-wise (despite the obvious anatomy differences but that's irrelevant here) but interests between the sexes rarely overlap simply because of how our upbringings are.

Actually, I find it refreshing to have gay dudes in fandom writing slash. There's this stigma that apparently only women write slash and actual gay men look down upon women who do. So when there is a gay dude who is a slash artist or writer, I tend to embrace him, as do a lot of my fandom friends.
Of course, you know, it helps with some leverage, since you will here people who hate slash say "REAL GAY MEN THINK THIS IS DUMB YOU SHOULD BE AHSAMED." As if the entire gay community is some sort of hivemind.

I can tell you for sure that the branch of TF2 fandom that produced slash and porn openly embraces gay dudes. Hell, one of the greatest writefags on the chan is a 36 year old gay man.

There were three or four I was dedicated to, and honestly it's been so long I don't even remember which one it was. I do recall having a long IM argument with a gal who said all men are rapists because they all possess a weener, which can be used for rapes. "Even Gandhi?" I would ask her. "Even my 92 year old granddad? Even a gay dude?"

I admit to playing up the fact that I am a female gamer. Usually for those stupid 'introduce yourself to the class and tell us something interesting about yourself' things our college professors tend to do. >< Of course. I stand up with boobs and say "I'm a rounded gamer". So. I guess that's still playing it up. It's managed to get me friends whose systems I can mooch off of and found me a D&D group. For the guys who actually know me. There are many, many.. MANY chick cracks. Usually after I've said or done something intelligent. Or kicked their ass at something. In all seriousness though, I'm one of those dudes who only really minds slash when there's no logic behind it even if it ain't canon. That, or when people insist that because they like the pairing it absolutely MUST be canon.

Which is what makes me glad that while I'm a fan of many things, I only consider myself in a few fandoms. Don't have to deal with so many of the "OMG LOOK AT MAI OC HE/SHE IS TTLY DATING <insert major character who either has no indication of a love life or already has a canon significant other> AND ITZ TTLY CANON KAY YOUCAN'T PAIR UR OWN CHARACTUR WIT MAI LOVR" in the more obscure fandoms like Silverwing or the various writings of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
You just be as horny and crazy and obsessed as you want hon. We're all on the same side here. We all love our fantasy characters a bit too much, and want to do things to them that you couldn't do IRL even if they existed or even if you could bend the laws of physics enough to allow some of what you want. I'm with ya here. I frickin' HATE these kind of fanboys. Their whole "THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO ENJOY THIS MOVIE/COMIC BOOK/ANIME/ VIDEO GAME, AND IF YOU DON'T ENJOY IT IN THIS PARTICULAR WAY, YOU'RE NOT A REAL FAN AND DON'T BELONG IN OUR/MY FANDOM!" way of thinking is what drove me from anime and manga when I was kid. Of course, it drove me straight into the arms of American comic books and the comic book fandom, so it wasn't ALL bad.
