This is not at all a good looking tool that I made. I just made about 2 hours ago. It was pretty cold and my anvil had to be pre-heated, so it didn't suck all the heat out of the work-piece within 2 seconds. I could have taken a bit more time on this and removed the quench scale on there ( the mottled surface of it). I can safely say that this tool actually performs very well, but I think i'm going to revisit this in the future.
The handle is made of mild steel that I decided to make nice and fancy and the bit of higher carbon steel I put on there with rivets is actually a concrete nail. It is one of many more I have and I figured it'd be a good idea to put them to some use. I would rather not take a larger piece of high-carbon steel just to make a little scribe. I like to conserve my stock for different tasks.
The carbon steel the concrete nail is made of seems to like being quenched in water I boiled.
