Despite many legends stating that gargoyles turn to stone under sunlight, it is only partially true. Ultraviolet rays just make them really sleepy. But when they actually go to sleep, their entire body (and accompanying clothes), calcifies to form a very hard surface that can protect resting gargoyle even against medium arms (for a time, at least).

Gargoyles prefer darker colors, as their eyesight is adapted to seeing in low light conditions.
