Mermanaid... like mermaid and merman put together! Said like lemonade, yeah, I felt real clever with this one. They're either non-binary or gender-fluid, I haven't exactly pinned down which one fits better quite yet but I'm leaning toward non-binary. They go by whichever pronoun you think suits them best! They don't really care, I imagine if you called them he/she and then explained to them why you feel that they're this or that they would go, "You just listed my feminine/masculine traits! I'm so happy that you noticed!" and preen happily because they love being themselves.
They're actually based off of a Betta fish, and I almost feel like some of their more human traits are more feminine while their more fishy traits tend to be masculine. If you're wondering what that means, check out some videos on Betta behavior! I think they're really adorable fish, thinking they're so tough lol! I should point out though if you don't like my interpretation of their gender, that they're not like a real person? They're Merfolk, and their gender and stuff doesn't work the same way (in my headcanon for them) so this isn't some sort of commentary or anything. Physically they're not one or the other either, their entire species is made up of herms so gender is really fluid for all of them. Eeeeh I feel the need to over explain this but also I don't wanna anymore sooooooo that's all. I might post the pic with a background later but IDK.
