Season 3 Coby Carson
I guess you could call this season 2/3 Coby because I put the character on hiatus for awhile to focus on Kelvin and other projects. I'm gonna be completely honest here, I had a lot of stuff going on outside of the FBA/UFFL (which is a long post in itself) so I'll summarize it real fast:
I was depressed, stressed out, mentally and physically unhealthy (Again, stay away from toxic people), and a bit lost.
There wasn't any ONE thing that caused all this, rather a build-up of things over a 3 year period- one of the things that got me through it was dancing but that's another story.
This artwork is actually from the shittiest story I've ever written (lol).
At this time I had confused 'dark and edgy' stories with 'interesting', that if I had the most morbidly realistic story, I'd automatically be more entertaining by default. (Right off the bat you can see where I went wrong XD )
I was watching Friday Night Light's Season 2 at the time...any FNL fan and staff of the show will tell you this was the worst season of the 5, as they tried to compete with the edgier/gritty shows rather than just being the high school drama show it was intended to be. Still...silly me tried to use that as a platform to go off of.
For one, Coby's not that kind of character and never was. How do you take, what started out as, a PG comedic goofball to a rated R serious sympathetic character drama AFTER he'd been a total douche' to everyone?
Two, the subject matter was....trite and very uncomfortable for what's supposed to be a PG-13 universe. I totally used a trope in the worst way, and it kind of butchered his whole backstory and foundation for who he is as a character.
Three, the story's ending was a cliche' and broke the rules of the universe while simultaneously making another character useless.
So all in all it was a pretty shit story and I retconned it (It's even worse when people tell you 'It's good' when you know damn well it wasn't XD ) But you have to go through bad stories to learn from mistakes to be able to create decent content.
Ironically, Friday Night Lights retconned that season's incidents as well. So, word to the wise, stick to what works and don't pretentiously try to be something you're not without understanding why it works in the first place.
