Okay, so. I made the last one and I wasn't satisfied with it, so I made a new one. The new one is huge compared to the last one. Same materials, different sort of concrete nail. This one was a bit bigger.
I am honestly quite pleased with this one and the way I made it so they fix together.
I basically punched two holes parallel to one another and then took the same punch and offset the web of metal betwixt the two holes. This makes a slot you can put things through, I then tapered out a section of the carbon steel and forged in a shoulder, this shoulder would be the part that slips through the slot. I had to do a good bit of file work on it so that it would fit nice and snug before I heated it up one more time and locked it in.
Not only is this scribe very good at marking pieces of relatively soft metals and steels that haven't been hardened, but it also acts as a very very nice awl.
