I can't recall the foxes name, but I'm assuming that fox is that religious zealot on the team that hated Dev after he came out. (My guess based on the cross around his neck)

He probably convinced himself of that since he didn't have to touch the other guy intimately. He wasn't performing the gay act. It was probably his way of getting his rocks off and not having sex with another female out of wedlock or something. Doesn't count if its a guy since two men can't get married. (In his mind at least)

Kyell's short story collection Twelve Sides has a story, Sinful, about Colin and his wife Penny. In it, we find out that their marriage is rather stiff/formal/arguably loveless, so she starts having an affair.
