At least with flip flops and growing feet they might actually stand a better chance of surviving the process and not be potentially painful to burst out of as might happen with boots. Of course with Devin's feet having grown to such an enormous size, it would call for some closer investigation and perhaps seeing whether the increased size has also seen an increase in ticklishness or in any case, feet that large it might hard to resist tickling anyway.
