Five drivers (Domitila Da Costa, Petri Saukkonen, Gareth Bellin, Gunnar Thorvaldsson, Darren Mitchell) were still within reach of the World Championship when the season came to a close at Round Twenty in Abu Dubai. Petri held a sliver of a lead coming into the race, but he struggled to keep up with top five of the race. In the end, Gareth Bellin, a veteran of Furmula One of twelve years and had numerous 2nd place season point finishes, finished second and people thought he had finally won his first championship... when Domitila Da Costa crossed the finish line in third place. With the race as tight as it was, there were some confusion on who won the title... when it came out that Da Costa has still earned enough points to win her first title.
By just a tiny margin. One single point.
Bellin was so distraught by yet another opportunity for the title falling through his badger hands that he wrecked a few things in his team garage in anger and then escaped into his motorhome trailer. Although he finally came out to participate in the podium celebrations, he looked very subdued and even Da Costa took the victory wreath off her shoulders and placed it on Bellin's in a touching moment.
And with the final race complete, this concludes the 2019 Furmula One season. OOCly, this is the first season for us, and I'm proud that this community stuck through it and we look forward to the upcoming season next year.
