Ugh I can't even remember what kind of "palm" this was, but my dad got it for me as a housewarming gift. I CANNOT HELP IT GROW, I HAVE THE BROWNEST THUMB EVER
i can't figure out what's wrong. I don't know if I'm watering it too much or too little. not enough sunlight or too much. UGH!
note: it's normally not next to the air conditioner I just moved it there this afternoon, it's normally by a far wall

a few handy tips from a hippie faggot:
a plant never has too much sunlight. it makes a big difference whether or not a plant is close to an unshadowed window.
watering is not much a matter of quantity as much as frequency. test the soil with a finger. when your fingertip doesn't get moist from touching the soil, it's time to water it.
you can buy for real cheap little pellets of fertilizer. they work really well and help your plants grow gorgeous!

many plants dont like to go from damp to dry constantly palms are one of those it stresses them and makes um sick
plenty of light keep it near a southern window
best rule of thumb put a finger in the soil if its moist your good getting a bit dry time to water soak it good drain out the excess and
leave it go on about its growing

Palms are tropical, so they like moist, humid environments. Water it once a week, and keep it in a pot with drainage holes on the bottom so you can set it in a dish full of rocks and water to help with the humidity. If you're keeping it in a low-light area, move it into bright sun for a couple hours every day.
Also if you're lazy or forgetful with watering, I'm pretty sure they make some kind of thingy you can stick in the soil that indicates when its dry and needs watering.
Your palm's looking worlds better than the one my mom has, at least. Poor thing got left outside a little too late in the season and we're not quite sure it survived the cold snap, lol.

it seriously looks like a dry plant, or a desert/beach type palm. palms don't need much care really. like bamboo they are pretty easy to not kill. lol. almost like weeds but nicer looking, lol.
how many times a day are you watering it. cause palms really only need to be watered like once a day an a palm that size would probably be fine with like.... 3-4 cups of water.
though the tips above may be true for alot of water-happy plants palms are not a type that need moist soil, they thrive in hot climates an direct sunlight. ^^ palms can survive happily in sandy soil or slightly dry soil. i still see alot of green so it's doing great! an don't be scared if you see brown on a palm, wiki some pcs of different palm types an you'll see it's really only the thicker leaf part that mostly holds any real green color...
trust me. take it from a person that was born an raised in florida.... surrounded by different palm types in different soil types an different climates. it's really hard to kill a palm ^^ it looks fine ^^

the tip about setting a seperate water catcher underneath with the holes in the bottom is a good an true tip. i didn't notice it at first but now i see it's just a regular pot. you need those holes to also give the roots some extra room to grow. an seeing where you said how old it was, if y ou can see the roots starting to seep out of the holes i mentioned then it's time to plant it ^^
